From the intro:

Editor’s Note
To start a revolution, bombs don’t need to be planted in banks and hospitals, on buses and human beings. Instead, bombs must be deposited in the single most sensitive and impressionable place in the world in order to create the most potent effect—the mind. How do you do this? Easy. By understanding the power of words and by using them. Every single piece of work within this journal is an act of revolution against what is established, what is hated, what is normal, what is wrong. These poems and short fiction pieces offer to their readers many “counter-understandings” of what our world is and what our world should be. They plant a seed in your mind and with your diligent and affectionate attention, can eventually allow a beautiful, strong, extraordinary thought to grow. New ideas will ignite within your mind and spread to your mouth, hands and feet. And with these new ideas you will speak, write, and march—planting tiny seeds of your own along the way. You will change the world through your very own internal revolution. Take these fresh philosophies and run with them. Share them with others. Inspire them to join you in your revolt against, well, anything.

Leon Lanzbom, RIP | 1954-2011

Leon Lanzbom, arguably one of the most illustrious and certainly one of the most eccentric editors of pacific REVIEW passed away last week. The world of literature has lost a jewel; the world at large, even more. Click here to leave your thoughts, comments, and/or anecdotes about Leon.

Past issues of pacific REVIEW edited by or with a contribution by Leon Lanzbom are here: 2004; 2005-2006; and 2010.

New Call for Papers! pacific Review 2011

pacificREVIEW, a West Coast Arts Review Literary Annual published by San Diego State University students in conjunction with San Diego State University Press, is currently accepting submissions for the 2010-2011 issue entitled “Revolt.”

In this turbulent time, one can’t help but hear those buzz words over and over again . . . “economic crisis,” “recession,” “Paris Hilton stock index” . . . At pacificREVIEW, we are well aware of the plight of the “little people,” those who just can’t seem to cut a break in this Comfortable-American-eats-the-economically-smaller-American world. Low-wage makers are forced to suffer through-- and are expected to receive-- piteous means for laborious efforts. But who says we have to put up with this? pacificREVIEW says REVOLT. We want to hear about your fight against it all, physically, spiritually, morally or any other______ly you can provide! We’re eagerly accepting submissions of short fiction/flash fiction, poetry, graphic narrative, photography, and creative nonfiction focusing on this theme. Written submissions must be 3,000 words or less. The submission deadline is 01.01.11.

Please direct any questions to pacificreview_sdsu@yahoo.com

Submissions will be accepted in hard copy only.
